Another year of Stanback Fellowship participation

The Park Institute of America has graciously accepted an invitation to participate in the 2024 Stanback Fellowship Program. A partnership between the Nicholas School of the Environment and non-profit environmental organizations, the Stanback Fellowship Program is generously funded by Duke alumni Fred and Alice Stanback to provide students with significant project-based learning experiences in energy, conservation, advocacy, policy, research and applied resource management.

The Park Institute has previously hosted Stanback Fellows in 2022 and 2023. On both occasions, Fellows examined approaches for broadening conservation engagement with communities of color to address the dual priorities of increasing park visitation and elevating workforce diversity. Their work furthers prior research indicating that global 30x30 conservation goals cannot be met without equitable and inclusive stakeholdership. The Institute's partnered Stanback Fellows have been instrumental to progressing our organization's research, and we are excited to continue this collaborative work in the summer of 2024.
